The Most Life-Changing Trips I’ve Ever Taken—And Why You Need to Go
Some trips don’t just take you somewhere new—they change you. They shift your mindset, expand your world, and leave an imprint on your soul that never fades.
I’ve taken my fair share of flights, crossed more borders than I can count, and immersed myself in cultures I never imagined calling home. But there are two trips that truly altered the course of my life—one that changed the way I saw my future, and another that introduced me to a whole new passion I never knew existed.
These weren’t just vacations. These were defining moments, the kind of experiences that make you rethink everything you thought you wanted.
South Korea: The Trip That Changed My Life’s Path
When I boarded a flight to Seoul for a two-week trip to visit my cousin—who was stationed there in the military—I thought it would be just another vacation. A whirlwind of sightseeing, Korean BBQ, and late-night adventures in Hongdae. But what I didn’t expect was to stumble upon an entire lifestyle I had never considered: the Expat Life.
Until that trip, I thought international living was only for diplomats, military personnel, or backpackers who ran out of money and decided to “find themselves” abroad. But in South Korea, I met teachers, contractors, entrepreneurs—people who had built entire lives in a country they once considered foreign. And suddenly, the idea of living where I vacationed didn’t seem so far-fetched.
I was captivated. So much so that on the flight home, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The idea consumed me.
One year later, I wasn’t just thinking about it—I was doing it. I packed my bags, bought a one-way ticket to China, and told myself I’d give it a year. That one year turned into nearly five. Five years of immersing myself in new cultures, learning a new language, and building a global network of friends that felt more like family.
If I had never taken that trip to South Korea, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I wouldn’t have explored over 40 countries, helped others take their first leap into international travel, or guided aspiring expats toward the life they dream of.
And here I am, in 2025, ready to continue that journey.

Thailand: The Trip That Introduced Me to a Whole New World (Literally)
If South Korea changed my path, then Thailand changed my perspective on adventure.
I booked a solo trip to Thailand with one goal in mind: to do absolutely nothing. I wanted white sand, fresh mangoes, and long, lazy afternoons with no agenda. No itinerary, no pressure—just me, the ocean, and my thoughts.
But fate had other plans.
One afternoon, as I strolled past a tiny beachside shop, a local woman called out to me. "You want to go diving?" she asked casually.
Diving? I hadn’t even considered it. I wasn’t some adrenaline junkie seeking the next thrill. But something about the way she said it made me pause. It was so… unplanned. Unscripted. And in that moment, I thought: Why not?
So, I handed over my baht, got on a boat, and before I even realized what I had signed up for—I was underwater, breathing through a regulator, surrounded by an entirely new world.
Looking back, I laugh at how naïve I was. I had no idea what I was getting into. I didn’t know people got seasick on boats (which, by the way, I do). I didn’t know what a “discovery dive” was or that I was, essentially, taking a crash course in scuba without any real preparation. I just knew that my gut (and my wallet) said, Go for it.
I remember the exact moment I submerged—the salty ocean breeze disappeared, replaced by a surreal silence. The resistance of the regulator, the cool rush of water against my skin, the slow, controlled breaths—and then, the world below opened up. Neon-colored fish darted past me in synchronized harmony, the coral swayed gently, and for the first time, I felt what it was like to be weightless in an entirely new world.
That one spontaneous decision led me down a new path. Today, I’m on my way to earning my Search and Rescue Scuba Certification—a hobby I never would have considered if I hadn’t taken that random dive in Thailand.
🚀 Pro Travel Tip: Always say yes to new experiences, especially when traveling solo. You never know what passion or purpose might be waiting for you in the most unexpected places.
Final Thoughts: The Power of Transformational Travel 🌍
Not all trips are just about sightseeing—some change the course of your life. South Korea made me an expat, Thailand made me a scuba diver, and who knows what’s next? That’s the beauty of travel—it constantly challenges you, expands your perspective, and pushes you beyond your comfort zone.
Some experiences in life are planned—milestones we work toward, dreams we map out. But others? Others find us.
You don’t have to know where your next trip will take you. You don’t have to have all the answers. But if you ever get the urge to just go—to book that flight, to explore that unfamiliar place, to try something completely outside your comfort zone—I hope you listen to it.
Because you never know… It might just change your life.
